Clear Skin: Tips & Advice

Hi beautiful! I'm back with a new video featuring a few skin care tips I swear by to help keep my skin clear. In my case, the health of my skin comes down to two factors: what I eat and how I treat my skin (makeup usage, face treatments, cleanliness etc).

My skin is always a work in progress, and I literally have to "baby" my skin for it to stay in a good condition. When I'm careful with what I eat and look after my skin by properly caring for it, it's clear and glowing. But when I'm slacking, I can tell right away! These are the things I do to help keep my skin clear.

I've seen a huge improvement in the general "flare-ups" of my skin since going dairy-free, especially around my cheeks. Dairy contains hormones for baby cows (hence cows milk) which can disrupt our hormone levels, causing irregular activity and over production of oil. You can read more about this, as well as how wheat and other animal products could be affecting your skin in the following post: "Clear Acne Free Skin" http://www.anniejaffrey.com/2012/11/how-to-clear-acne-free-skin.html

Skin Care Tips Recap:
- Minimize and/or avoid: dairy and animal products, wheat, sugar
- Include lots of: water, vegetables, fruit, nuts, quinoa, green tea, fresh juices
- Avoid wearing makeup daily (to let your skin breath) - or if you can't not wear makeup daily, then try taking it off as soon as you get home
- Make sure brushes are cleansed and sanitized before use
- Exercise regularly to get oxygen to your skin and minimize stress levels
- Pamper your skin (do natural DIY facials, steam your face, exfoliate...)

Other Skin Care Tips:
- Change your pillow case every 2-3 days
- Hair conditioner has silicones in it, so avoid letting it run down your face when showering as it can clog up your pores. Tip: Cleanse face after you condition your hair (and your pores will have opened up nicely by this stage)
- Use natural face masks, with ingredients like raw honey or clay (Aztec Healing Clay for instance is great!)
- Keep hair out of your face - especially when working out (it can irritate your skin causing breakouts)

The two supplements I sometimes take which help my skin are:
- Nordic Naturals Omega 369 Vit D Fish Oil Capsules (lemon taste)
- Nature's Way Alive Women's Energy

But the most important is eating real food which naturally contain these vitamins and nutrients: lots of greens, vegetables, fruits, fish, nuts, beans etc.. It's amazing how good healthy food can solve so many of our body issues, and make us feel great. It's so powerful.

Again as mentioned in the video, everybody is different: our genetics, the way our bodies process food etc. You might know someone who can do whatever they want to their skin, and it's always clear - yet you might have more difficulties with yours. It's about experimenting, observing and understanding what triggers the breakouts. There's no need in being sad about it, just learn and carry on! :)

I hope that you found this post helpful! Let me know if you stick to similar 'guidelines' to help keep your skin clear. Do you have any favorite face masks, or treatments for your skin? Let me know in the comments! XOXO

  10. I put a drop of olive oil into my nivea moisturizer for sleeping and wake up with the most smooth skin. My grandmother is 92yrs old and looks 10yrs younger and never used anything but the blue nivea. Also I believe that way too many girls and women with naturally beautiful skin wear too often and too much foundations and irritate their skin like that...I think on a daily basis on usual day moisturizer with SPF, a bit of concealer or correcter and blush/powder really is enough to shine :) especially at daytime when the foundations can look a bit too heavy in the daylight. XOXO

  11. Hi Annie,

It was a nice surprise to see not one, but two new videos from you with many great tips as always!

I have a request - could you please do a video about foundations and which one in your opinion gives good coverage and is best for problem skin ? Maybe high end compared to cheaper brands? Is there a difference and which one is worth the money and maybe you could include before and after photos? I believe many girls have the same problem - wanting to try an expensive brand foundation but not sure if it will be worth it. My main problem is that is very difficult to find a foundation that doesn't lead to skin breakouts. I know you did a similar video with your cousin few months ago but would appreciate if one day you upload an extension to that with more detail :)

    Have a lovely day! :)
